Redmond Rainbow Crosswalk

Visibility is an integral step for any city to show where it's values lie.
Redmond has begun the process of putting money and work behind it's words of inclusion and pride proclamation. Check out the current goings-on to watch this project come to life.

Next Steps

Redmond's Art & Culture Commission's game plan!
-March A&CC will send out the call for artists
-Artist will be approved in May
-Artist will  start community input outreach in June
-July the design will be approved
-August is the hopeful date for the beginning on the crosswalk painting
-The goal is to complete the crosswalk by the end of August so that the first following event will be Redmond Pride!

Arts & Culture Meeting

Axton Burton made a short and sweet power point presentation to Redmond's Arts & Culture Commission on December 8th. This went over the history of the pink triangle, the pride flag and progress flag, why having this art installation will be a welcome highlight to Redmond, examples from other WA cities as well as the community input hopeful path forward for this project. The rumored code in Redmond has not been found, although they are double checking now.

City Hall Meeting

A group of local advocates visited city hall November 1st to challenge the city to show visible solidarity by adding a rainbow crosswalk in wake of the increasing legal dehumanizing laws being set into place to criminalize the LGBTQ+ community across the US. There are key City Council Members that have been pushing this conversation from the inside, as this topic has been shared to the city before.

At this meeting we had folks share why this is important, their experience working as a trans Redmond employee, a mother of a trans son, a local and very active business owner of 2 places in downtown Redmond, as well as comments from our petition.

There is a rumored single sentence in Redmond's code that could be another hurdle before we continue this project.

Check out the Redmond Reporter's article about the meeting.
